Seeking a change of scenery more than a spiritual awakening, Pundalik embarked on a pilgrimage to Kashi(Varanasi). During the journey, he encountered a group of holy sages known as the Kukud Siddhas. Curious, Pundalik invited them to his resting place but did so without genuine respect or understanding of their spiritual stature. Despite this, the sages remained kind and accepted his hospitality.

One night, Pundalik witnessed something extraordinary. As the sages meditated, three divine women—representing the sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati—appeared to serve them. To his surprise, the women seemed tired and worn out, with their clothes stained and soiled. Perplexed, Pundalik asked the sages why these divine figures, normally symbols of purity and strength, appeared in such a state.

The sages explained that these women represented seva (selfless service) to humanity, but their exhaustion was a reflection of the neglect and disrespect shown by selfish people like Pundalik, who ignored their sacred duties. The sages revealed that Pundalik’s disregard for his parents was not only hurting his family but also tainting his spiritual progress. They made him realize that true devotion begins at home, with the service and care of one's parents.

This revelation struck Pundalik deeply. He suddenly understood the gravity of his actions and how far he had strayed from the path of dharma (righteousness). Shaken by the wisdom of the sages, Pundalik vowed to change his ways and return home, dedicating himself to the service of his parents. The Divine Visit: Lord Vitthal and Rukmini Mata

One day, moved by Pundalik’s devotion, Lord Vitthal, along with His consort Rukmini Mata, decided to visit him at his home in Pandharpur. When the divine couple arrived, Pundalik was busy attending to his parents and could not immediately greet them. Though aware of the holy presence outside his door, Pundalik chose not to interrupt his service to his parents.

In a gesture that reflects both humility and unwavering devotion, Pundalik threw a brick (called Veeta in Marathi) outside for Lord Vitthal and Rukmini to stand on, asking them to wait until he finished his duties. Both Lord Vitthal and Rukmini Mata, recognizing the purity of Pundalik’s heart, stood patiently on the brick without any complaint.

This moment of divine patience is forever memorialized in Pandharpur, where the deity Lord Vitthal is often depicted standing on a brick with His hands on His waist, waiting for His devotee. It is believed that this posture is a testament to the Lord’s immense love for those who serve others selflessly, especially their family.
